Jannik Sinner will not be on court at the Internazionali d'Italia scheduled for Rome May 6-19, 2024. In fact, the South Tyrolean champion has not recovered from the hip injury that forced him to withdraw from the Madrid Masters 1000 tournament before the quarterfinal that would have seen him face Felix Auger-Aliassime. It was Sinner himself who announced the forfeit, via social.
"It is not è easy to write this message but after talking again with doctors and specialists about my hip problems I have to announce that unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome. Of course I am very sad that I will not be able to recover, as it is one of my favorite tournaments ever. I was looking forward to coming back and playing at home in front of the Italian public" wrote the world number 2.
"I will still come to Rome for a few days and spend some time at the Foro Italico. Thank you for your messages of support which I appreciate so much! Now I will workò with my team and doctors to be ready for Roland Garros. See you soon, come on" Sinner then concluded, greeting fans and enthusiasts.
The choice of Sinner è contingent on the need to recover 100% ahead of the two summer slams, Roland Garros and Wimbledon, as well as the Olympic tournament in Paris. In Madrid, Sinner è was not the only big player to withdraw: in fact, Daniil Medvedev è was also forced to forfeit, due to a muscle problem.
