A victory of great importance, worth an unprecedented achievement.

Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) won the second stage of Giro d'Italia 107, the 161-kilometer San Francesco al Campo-Santuario di Oropa (Biella). In second and third place were Daniel Felipe Martinez (Bora – Hansgrohe) and Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers), respectively. The Slovenian è the new overall leader’s Pink Jersey, and è for him the first time in his career as leader of the kermesse.

On the same roads that celebrated the class and grit of the late Marco Pantani, Pogacar è managed to cross the finish line alone, proving stronger even than adversitiesà: in the course of the day he had in fact had to deal with a puncture and then also a fall. Decisive was his sprint 5 km from the finish.

Great balance behind him, to emphasize the fourth place at the finish line of Lorenzo Fortunato (Astana Qazaqstan), which in this way he è moved to sixth place in the overall classification of the Giro 2024, the very first Italian in the platoon.
