Jannik Sinner’s words at the press conference

Jannik Sinner, speaking at a press conference in Rome, talked about his right hip injury: "Before the Madrid tournament I was better, it was a strange situation. With Kotov I felt enough pain. The day before the match with Khachanov it was better, but I knew something was wrong. We had an MRI in Madrid and there was something wrong. In Monte-Carlo we did more tests and made this decision. It is not è easy becauseé Rome è a special tournament. It has to be accepted even if it hurts, both me and the fans. I am 22 years old, I hope to play 10 more years in Roma".

"The glass è quite full for what has been done in the season – added the South Tyrolean -. Even in the future there will be difficult moments. Some injuries can be prevented, others cannot. So far we have done a great job. Last year I had no injuries, this year as well so far. We learn and move forward. We have to handle situations better, next year whether it is worth playing Monte-Carlo or not. We cannot be perfect. I would like to play in all the tournaments, I was the first to say to try in Rome as well. I don’t see it as a defeat".

So, the world number two put in doubt his participation in Roland Garros: "For a period I will not play". From next week we will decide some things. The preparation for Paris will not be optimal, but with my team we will give our best to be competitive. Arriving in Paris without matches in Rome is not è easy, this tournament è important in view of Roland Garros. So far I have never had so many physical problems changing surfaces. I am careful with my movements, we are doing some low-intensity work. We will have answers in a week. I will playò in Paris if I am 100%".

"We did everything well, we took rest days after Monte-Carlo, which were necessary ahead of Madrid. We trained to put fuel towards Rome and Paris. We did everything correctly, if I had to go back I wouldn’t know what to do better or differently. I haven’t had an injury in a long time, I hope to come back as soon as possible and stronger than before" concluded Sinner.
