Paris 2024, suffered forfeit for Asia D’Amato
Asia D'Amato will not be able to compete in Paris 2024
The Italian gymnastics team will have to do without Asia D'Amato at the Paris Olympic Games scheduled for next summer. In fact, the Federation reported on Tuesday the results of the exams the Italian athlete underwent after her injury at the European Championships in Rimini: cruciate ligament injury in her left knee, a long stop is expected.
D'Amato had undergone surgery on the same knee last year after an injury at the World Cup in Egypt. Returning to Brescia from Rimini, the venue of the European Championships, the gymnast è was examined by Dr. Guido Zattoni at the Fondazione Poliambulanza hospital institute: at the end of the examination è emerged the need for a new operation, which thus jeopardizes any chance of being present at the Games.
After a new diagnostic investigation scheduled for Monday, May 13, Asia D'Amato will most likely be operated on in Austria by Dr. Jürgen Barthofer, head physician at Klinik Diakonissen in Linz, who in 2015 had reconstructed twin Alice’s ACL and operated on Asia’s own knee in May 2023 upon her return from Cairo.
"The Federation,” reads the note, “will give all its medical and logistical support to the 21-year-old from the Fiamme Oro, and the Italian gymnastics movement is clutching as of now to its little fairy, an Olympian in Tokyo 2021 and an all around European queen in Munich in 2022, in the hope of seeing her soon return to flying".
