Italy-Sweden 3-0

In the first test-match of this 2024, the Italian women’s national team beat Sweden 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-13) at PalaIgor in Novara.  Very good response from the audience: 2549 spectators present for a total of 40,085.00 euros. Best scorer of the match è was Camilla Mingardi with 12 points, excellent at the wall the contribution of Yasmina Akrari: 4 winning ones.  Tomorrow the challenge will be repeated at PalaBancaSport in Piacenza (7 pm with live broadcast on EuroSport 1 and Discovery Plus). 

The match saw the return to the Azzurri bench of Julio Velasco, flanked by Massimo Barbolini and Lorenzo Bernardi. In the first outing of the season, the Azzurri coach fielded Cambi at setter, opposite Antropova, setters Degradi and C. Bosetti, center the pair Danesi-Akrari, libero Fersino. For Anna Danesi, it was her debut as Italy captain, while Yasmina Akrari, Stella Nervini and Benedetta Sartori made their debut in the blue jersey.

In the first set Italy quickly took command of the game, exploiting the wall very well (10-6). Sweden tried to answer with the serve, but the Azzurri once settled some details took the lead (15-7). Italy dominated the rest of the fraction and in the final, coach Velasco gave space first to Piva and then to the Bosio-Mingardi diagonal. 

In the second partial, the Azzurri showed up with the same lineup and in a few actions took the lead (9-6). Danesi and her teammates did not allow any chance to the opponents (12-6) and Bosetti in attack è scored repeatedly (15-8). In the later stages, a debut with the Italy jersey for Stella Nervini, the tricolor national team confirmed its superiority by closing with a peremptory (25-9). 

Coach Velasco radically changed the sextet in the third set: Bosio on the dribble, opposite Mingardi, setters Piva and Nervini, middle pair Akrari and Sartori, libero Spirito. The new lineup immediately responded well and Sweden è slipped back (8-3). As throughout the match Italy had no trouble managing the lead and the final score read (25-13).
