Cagliari, Claudio Ranieri takes a stab at salvation and makes an appeal to the Football League
Claudio Ranieri’s statements ahead of Milan-Cagliari
After the draw with Lecce, Cagliari è called to play all for everything in these last three days of the championship, where the goal will be to obtain the necessary points to win arithmetic salvation. Ahead of the season finale, the coach of the Rossoblù Claudio Ranieri wanted to make an appeal to the Football League regarding the fight not to relegate.
"We play our season in these last three games. Three months ago we would have signed to be in this situation, but we are ready to fight as always and I don't think that this game with Milan or qiesta giornata will be decisive. The last one will be and I hope that the League will make these matches be played at the same time, without advances or postponements" began the Cagliari coach in a press conference.
"Milan has many champions, whether they play one or the other does not make much difference. It's the team that has scored more than anyone else from corner kicks or action born from corners. We will have to play an excellent match, like against Atalanta, Inter and Juventus. We do not know if the fact that the Rossoneri are struggling is a pro or a con for us, forò I think we will understand at the final whistle. Our priority must be to prepare the match as best we can and be ready to take advantage of every situation" continued the islanders’ coach.
"It's true that we squandered some leads, but on the other hand we come back very often. I would always prefer to take the lead, then competitions go many ways depending on many factors. This team has a strong group spirit, the same one that brought us back to Serie A and showed it with Lecce as well. In the first 43 minutes, eleven against eleven, we did very well, creating more chances than our opponents. We are very confident, but we have to be more careful in the defensive phase" added the former Leicester coach.
In conclusion, Claudio Ranieri expressed an opinion regarding the Italian teams engaged in European competitions: "I am happy for Fiorentina, as well as I will be if Roma and Atalanta should pass. I always cheer all the Italians in Europe, without any distinction. However, my attention now è turned exclusively to the next championship match against Milan".
