Rome, Luciano Darderi takes revenge on Mariano Navone
In the second round of the Internazionali d’Italia on the clay at the Foro Italico in Rome, Luciano Darderi, world number 54, beat Argentine Mariano Navone, number 31, with a score of 6-3 6-2.
On’1-1 è Darderi to have the first break points, three consecutive, to Navone saves them by making five points in a row and then snatching him the service from the’Italian-Argentine who for’from that moment collects eight games in a row taking home the first set, complete with a break point saved on 4-3, and going up 3-0 in the second.
The score then follows service at 4-2, when Darderi saves three break points, the first two consecutive, but takes home the match after uncorking his opponent’s serve again and taking revenge for his defeat in last week’s Cagliari Challenger semifinal, when Navone had beaten him 6-3 7-5.
Just over an hour and a half the duration of today’s match, now Darderià will now face in the third round the winner between Germany’s Sascha Zverev, world No. 5 and No. 3 seed on the draw, and Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic.
"This match was very important for me, I remember a few years ago I was here as a spectator. I am very happy, è a dream and I want to continue like this,” said Darderi at the end of the match.
