È the most engaging, fascinating and full of history and culture moment of our Gallop: the Derby, the mother of all races. 141 years of history, from Andreina (the first Derby winner) onward, with the Capannelle racecourse serving as the incomparable setting for a unique event. A wonderful story that began in the wicked land of Albion in 1780 thanks to the genius of Mr. Stanley, 12th Earl of Derby.
Since then winning the Blue Ribbon (soì defined because a blue silk ribbon was once belted around the winner’s neck) è has always been the dream of every equestrian operator, breeder, owner, trainer and jockey. The Derby è the race that comes only once in a horse’s career, at age three and then never again;. This perhaps explains the reason for its most authentic appeal: 140 interminable and poignant seconds in which not only a name in the roll of honor but also a place in history is up for grabs.
The Italian Galloping Derby è the’essence of this discipline, a bewitching spectacle that brings together and fascinates tens of thousands of spectators at the’Ippodromo Capannelle on the most important day of the year. A’unique opportunity to see the best horses face each other in the decisive moment of the season.
The magic moment of the day, that of the 141° Derby Italiano del Galoppo (TQQ) will start at 5:30 p.m., the fifth race of the program, when the 15 three-year-old horses hired for the occasion will take off to attack the 2200 severe meters of the most coveted pattern. Nourished by international representation: the highly regarded German Argentum; the French Bateau Blanc, brother of that Tokyo Gold who won the Derby in 2021, with the same multiple winner Cristian Demuro in the saddle; the other transalpine Believer, in the saddle of which Carlo Fiocchi will try’to renew the winning magic of 2020 with Tuscan Gaze; then three other German horses, Borna, fresh graduate of our Filiberto, his companion Shahbazi, and Thekingofmyheart, riding Miki Cadeddu, a jockey with an acting background as a teenager in the fiction “Un Medico in Famiglia”; and again the fearsome Englishman Royal Supremacy. Defending our colors here is the recent Parioli graduate, Melfi, and with him the runner up Maturlo, flanked by Botticelli veterans Dark Defence and Chicotai. And to conclude Quiet Chaos, Amonet, Man With the Plan and The Tweed, who are also insidious.
The elitist counterpoint of the afternoon will be entrusted to the seniors who will vie for the prestigious President of the Republic – Università Campus Bio-Medico, the’other pattern of the afternoon, over 1800 meters, scheduled at 4:05 pm as the third race of the day. Eight are at the start and here too foreign guests are expected, all well known and valuable such as See Hector, Aggenstein, Bukhara and Woodchook. Leading ours here is Estrosa, the female so dear to the’former Juventus trainer Max Allegri, fresh from her laurels in the Signorino and ready for such an important race, but also Tempesti, flagship of the Dormello stable with Demuro in the saddle, and to close in beauty also Mordimi and Lord Sakai.
