Roberto De Zerbi leaves Brighton
Clamorous turn of events for Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian coach will no longer be the coach of Brighton. It was announced by the English club itself, through an official statement: "Brighton & Hove Albion has confirmed that coach Roberto De Zerbi will leave the club after tomorrow's last Premier League match against Manchester United at the American Express Stadium".
De Zerbi, who è joined Brighton in September 2022 after Graham Potter left for Chelsea, achieved the best finish in the club's history in the top flight in 2022/23 and took the club to the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League this year.
"Roberto has given us two excellent seasons in which he has led the club to new heights, not least our first European campaign that will remain in the memory of Albion fans for a long time,” stressed chairman Tony Bloom. We have mutually agreed to terminate Roberto’s contract at a time that suits both parties, allowing us to better plan for next season and Roberto to have plenty of time to think about his next move and his future".
"I am very sad to leave Brighton,” De Zerbi admitted, “but I am very proud of what my players and staff have achieved with the support of everyone at the club and our fantastic fans over the past two historic seasons. We agreed to end my time at Brighton so that the club and I can continue to work in the way that suits each of us best, following our ideas and visions, as well as our work and human values".
"I spent two intense and challenging years in the Premier League, also becauseé I participated in four major competitions this season. Leaving now will give me time to take a break before deciding on my future plans", the former coach of Sassuolo and Shakhtar Donetsk concluded.
