VNL, Italy shifts gears, Turkey beaten
A great Italy beat hosts Turkey 3-1 (25-27 25-21 25-19) at a’Antalya Sports Hall packed to capacity in the fourth match of the VNL.
A very heavy success for Velasco’s girls who thus gained an impressive 10.65 points in the World Ranking. Beyond the result, however, what should be emphasized is the performance of Cambi and her teammates, masters of the court for a large part of the match against the reigning European champions.
As a starting lineup, coach Velasco fielded Cambi at setter, opposite Antropova, middle blockers Bonifacio and Danesi, setters Caterina Bosetti and Degradi, libero Fersino. In the first set è Turkey went ahead first on 4-2 but the Azzurri turned the tide from 3-5 to 9-6 then reaching 14-10. The hosts came back down on 17-17, then from 20-20 there were four set points for Velasco’s girls all canceled and in the end it was the Turks, after canceling a fifth set point, who won the first partial.
Italy shifted gears in the second set coming to lead 16-10 and then managing to aminist the margin. In the third set it was the Turks who stretched on’11-8 but the Azzurri came back under and then slowly stretched to take the lead in the set count. The fourth partial è was dominated by our players who led first on 14-7 and then on 17-9 closing shortly after the match. For Italy 23 points from Ekaterina Antropova and 16 from Alice Degradi, Turkey did not need 33 points from the usual Melissa Vargas.
