Tadej Pogacar continues to dominate Giro 2024

He was the most eagerly awaited man on the eve of the race, and he did not betray the expectations of fans and insiders alike: Tadej Pogacar indeed won the queen stage of the Giro d'Italia 2024, 222 kilometers from Malerba del Garda to Livigno, with the uphill finish at Mottolino. The Slovenian of the UAE Team Emirates, who consolidates his lead in the general classification, anticipated Nairo Quintana (Movistar Team) by 29" and Georg Steinhauser (EF Education-EasyPost) by 2'32".

"Today è was one of the most beautiful days of my career,” Pogacar himself told the microphones of the organizers. “It was a stage I was already aiming for since December, because I know Livigno very well, and I am happy that everything went according to plan. There was a breakaway with many strong men, but the team worked well until Rafal Majka gave me the green light".

"I think Quintana and Steinhauser did a great stage, it wasnè t easy to go and catch them" added Pogacar, who leads the general classification with 6'41" over Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) and 6'56" over Daniel Felipe Martinez (Bora-Hansgrohe). In this tour, Pogacar did not wear the pink jersey in the peloton only in the first two stages, winning it right at the end of the second stage without leaving it.

As for the atre jerseys, the cyclamen one of leader of the Classification in Points è still on the shoulders of Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek), the blue one of leader of the Grand Prix of the Mountain è formally of Pogacar (who però cannotò wear it in the peloton, having already the pink one), while the white one of leader of the Youth Classification (born after 01/01/1999) è prerogative of Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victorious).
