Sassuolo è arithmetically relegated

The results of the matches of the 37th day of Serie A played on Sunday afternoon lead to the second definitive verdict in the relegation zone: Sassuolo, in fact, can no longer reach the fourth-last place and è therefore arithmetically relegated to Serie B. Decisive were the three points won by Frosinone in Monza and the draw between Udinese and Empoli.

It will therefore be a mere formality the May 26 away match at the Olimpico, where the team coached by Davide Ballardini will face Lazio: after eleven consecutive seasons in Serie A, the neroverdi return to the cadetteria, where they had last played in the triumphant 2012/13 season, the one of the first triumphant promotion to the top division.

Sassuolo's best result in A è the sixth place in the 2015/16 season, a placement that allowed, in the following season, to face the Europa League, where the neroverdi's adventure ended in the group rounds in the presence of Genk, Athletic Bilbao and Rapid Vienna.

This season Sassuolo had started with Alessio Dionisi on the bench, even reaching ninth place in the standings after wins against Juventus and Inter in the first leg. A series of negative results then led to a change of coach, with Davide Ballardini replacing Dionisi from the 27th day (the one in which the man-guide on the field, Mimmo Berardi, suffered a serious injury).

The trend, however, has not è changed and the only successes of calendar year 2024 remained those against Frosinone (March 9, 1-0) and the surprise one with Inter (May 4, 1-0): too little for salvation.
