Giro d’Italia: Tadej Pogacar makes it five in Val Gardena, three Italians in top 5
Tadej Pogacar takes the 16th stage and è more and more; pink jersey
After Oropa, Perugia, Prati di Tivo and Livigno Tadej Pogacar è also won the 16th stage of the Giro d'Italia 2024, the 120-kilometer Lasa-S.Cristina Val Gardena. The Slovenian cyclist, after giving the decisive breakaway in the last kilometer, crossed the finish line solo ahead of Giulio Pellizzari and Colombian Daniel Felipe Martinez. Closing the top 5 were two other Italians, namely Christian Scaroni and Antonio Timberi.
Completing the top 10 are Thymen Arensman, Damiano Caruso, Michael Storer, Ewen Costiou and Valentin Paret-Peintre. In the general classification, the UAE Team Emirates rider is confirmed in the Maglia Rosa with a significant lead over Daniel Felipe Martinez and Thoams Geraint.
"We wanted to let the breakaway go so we wouldn’t catch cold or take risks, then Movistar decided to attack and they brought us close to the attackers. I told Novak and Majka to set the pace and in the last 2 km we made the difference. Five wins is a great achievement for me" these are the warm statements of Tadej Pogacar after the stage win.
