Laver Cup, Andre Agassi captain of the "Rest of the World" from 2025
From 2025, the non-player captain of the Rest of the World team against Europe in the Laver Cup will be Andre Agassi. The 54-year-old from Las Vegas former world No. 1 and winner of eight Grand Slam tournaments, all four at least once, will takeà the place of John McEnroe, another U.S. tennis legend.
SuperMac in this year’s edition, to be held in Berlin from September 20 to 22, will thus be on his last adventure on the Team World bench and will once again challenge his great friend and rival Bjorn Borg, captain of Europe. Next year, in the challenge scheduled to take place in San Francisco, McEnroe will hand over to Agassi.
“I am truly honored to accept the invitation to be the captain of the Laver Cup Team World team,” the author of the famous and beautiful autobiography “Open” said in a video on social media. “For me, the key will be to understand and manage the needs of the players throughout the year and to really get to know them so that we can select the pairings that will give us the best chance of getting wins on the scoreboard and bringing home the Laver Cup. I hope to build relationship, respect and trust with the players as John did and I look forward to the role, I don’t take it lightly”.
Borg will also leave at the end of this year’s edition and the most natural candidate to take his place seems to be Roger Federer. The Swiss è was the creator of this competition and it was in this context that he bid farewell to played tennis in 2022, just as Rafael Nadal is likely to do this year. The Majorcan will defend the colors of Europe along with Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Sascha Zverev, while in Team World for now Alex De Minaur, Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul have been summoned.
