Ferrari Joy! Charles Leclerc wins in his Monte Carlo, also on the podium Carlos Sainz
Gp Monaco: 1° Charles Leclerc, 2° Oscar Piastri, 3° Carlos Sainz
The wait for Charles Leclerc and his fans è is over: after a little less than two years of fasting, Ferrari’s number 16 returns to winning a Formula 1 Grand Prix and does so on a decidedly special occasion for him, the Monaco Grand Prix, his home grand prix. Leclerc had last won in Austria, on July 10, 2022. Also on the podium was Oscar Piastri, second in the McLaren, while Carlos Sainz rounded out the Redhead’s party by finishing on the lowest step of the podium.
Restarted about 45 minutes after the accident that, at the first start, had caused serious damage to Sergio Perez's car, the race experienced few jolts, also because of the conformation of the circuit that does not facilitate overtaking. leclerc has however maintained solidityà mental and precision driving for all 78 laps, without ever risking and, indeed, stretching in the final against the McLaren of the Australian.
Also of a high level was the race of Sainz, who was good at recovering psychologically after the pre-red flag puncture (in retrospect, the interruption of the race turned out to be a stroke of luck for the Spaniard, who è was able to restart from third place) and maintain his position until the checkered flag.
The good performance of the McLarens è was completed by Lando Norris’ fourth place, while George Russell (Mercedes) finished fifth ahead of Max Verstappen (Red Bull), sixth and the author of a race without any particular sharpness. Closing out the Top 10 were Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), Yuki Tsunoda (RB), Alex Albon (Williams) and Pierre Gasly (Alpine).
Verstappen remains leading the World Championship standings with 169 points, Leclerc è second at 138. Also above 100 points are Lando Norris (113), Carlos Sainz (108) and Sergio Perez (stopped at 107 after today’s retirement).
