Jannik Sinner, fluent debut at Roland Garros
Jannik Sinner – Christopher Eubanks 6-3 6-3 6-4
It was all easy for Jannik Sinner on his debut in Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam of the season held on the clay courts of Bois de Boulogne. The South Tyrolean, in fact, had no problem against U.S. tennis player Christopher Eubanks, number 46 in the ATP rankings, defeated in three sets (6-3 6-3 6-4) after two hours and nine minutes of play.
Sinner got off to a strong start, immediately putting pressure on Eubanks, who was already forced to the advantages in the opening game. Thus, in the third game comes the South Tyrolean’s break, which he repeated in the fifth game, going up 4-1. The Italian, however, surrendered one of the two break leads but on 4-3 he placed a new and decisive stretch that allowed him to win the partial 6-3 after 39 minutes.
Prolonged break for Eubanks, who also lost serve in the opening of the second set, with Sinner quickly flying to 3-0. The South Tyrolean only needed a break to make the second partial his as well, closing 6-3 on serve, after nullifying the American three counter-break balls in the last game.
In the third set, as expected, Sinner immediately went ahead by a break, snatching the serve from Eubanks in the third game. The azure retains the break lead until 5-4: here he è forced to cancel a dangerous break ball to his opponent, but having escaped the danger, he files the case with a winning serve.
Sinner thus advances to the second round of the Paris Slam where he will face French veteran Richard Gasquet, currently number 124 in the world, and who defeated Borna Coric in three sets on debut.
