Roland Garros, Matteo Arnaldi qualifies in three strokes to the third round

Matteo Arnaldi, world number 35, enters the third round of the men’s singles at Roland Garros by beating Frenchman Alexandre Muller, number 90, by a clear score of 6-4 6-1 6-3.

The match è began yesterday with two breaks suffered in the first two games, the first in favor of Arnaldi who immediately loses it again, then on 2-2 there are three more consecutive ones and the last one è in favor of the Italian who on 4-3 avoids to be counter-breached again by annulling three balls for the 4-4.

On 5-3 came the rain, the match resumed today and in two games the San Remo player closed the set. The second partial è dominated by Matteo, who after saving himself from 0-40 and canceling a fourth break ball in the second game, from’1-1 strung five consecutive games.

In the third set Arnaldi goes down 0-2 but at this point it starts raining again and when it comes back to the court the Azure turns the situation around with five games in a row canceling forò again break balls, one in the third game and as many as six in the seventh, he misses two match points on his opponent’s serve at 5-2 but the fifth overall at 5-3 è the good one.

2 hours and 26 minutes of actual play between yesterday and today the duration of the match. Now Arnaldi will face Russian Andrey Rublev, world number 6 and the number 6 seed on the scoreboard.
