Roberto D'Aversa is returning to Serie A. The former Lecce coach, in fact, è has been hired by Empoli to replace the departing Davide Nicola, who is reportedly now one step away from becoming Cagliari’s new coach. The former Parma signed a contract with the Tuscans until June 30, 2026.
"Empoli Football Club announces that it has entrusted the technical guidance of the first team to Roberto D’Aversa. The coach has signed a contract until June 30, 2026. In addition to coach D’Aversa, Salvatore Sullo, in the role of assistant coach, Marco Piccioni, technical collaborator, Luigi Turci, goalkeeper trainer, Danilo Massi and Riccardo Ragnacci athletic trainers" this is the statement issued by the Tuscan club.
D'Aversa began taking his first steps as coach at Virtus Lanciano. After a first salvation in Serie B, in December 2016 he was called by Parma, in Lega Pro, where he won, after the playoffs, promotion to the cadet championship. Confirmed on the ducal bench also in the following season, he made the double jump, bringing the Emiliani back to Serie A. He remained on the bench of the crociat for two more seasons, achieving a fourteenth and an eleventh place.
When the experience with Parma ended, he coached, still in A, first Sampdoria and in the last season Lecce, taking over from Marco Baroni.
