Tour de France, Primoz Roglic withdraws
After a disastrous crash less than 15 kilometers from the’finish of yesterday’s stage in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Primoz Roglic has decided to withdraw from the Tour de France following a medical consultation this morning with his team, Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe.
Too much pain in his shoulder and too many injuries to keep the 34-year-old former ski jumper going, who must once again bid farewell to the dream of the Grande Boucle, the only major three-week stage race he has yet to è win.
Roglic è mposed in the Giro d’Italia last year and in the Vuelta a Espana three consecutive times, from 2019 to 2021. In the Tour he competed five times from 2017 to 2022, finishing fourth in 2018 and second, behind compatriot Tadej Pogacar, in 2020.
In the general classification Roglic, following yesterday’s crash, had dropped from fourth to sixth place at 4’42” from Pogacar. Now the withdrawal. A pity, although objectively for him to recover would have been very difficult.
