The bitterness of defeat is nevertheless accompanied by the pride of having been there.

Novak Djokovic takes his hat off to Carlos Alcaraz after his defeat in the 2024 Wimbledon final. The Spaniard è won in three sets with a clear 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4) and Nole tried to comment on the match in the heat by sketching a smile to try to mask the disappointment. "Today è was really hot!", were his very first words. Followed by an equally clear: "Clearly this was not the result I was hoping for. Especially in the first two sets".

"The level of tennis that Alcaraz put forward was too high compared to my possibilities today,” Djokovic then admitted. He è extremely complete, in any area of the court and phase of the match. He è on serve, at the net, always. I did what I could, I saved three match points. I wanted to extend the match, but more than that; today you could not do".

"What Alcaraz got today è was a totally deserved victory – added Djokovic, triggering the ovation of the Wimbledon audience as the Spaniard bowed his head in a sign of respect -. So Carlos, really congratulations for your amazing tennis. And congratulations also to your team and its family, becauseé this è is a sport where only one person goes on the court. But the merits are team".

Djokovic è however, wanted to dwell on the bumpy road that allowed him to hit the London final again this year. "I am very proud of myself, I have to be,” he said. "Right now forò by necessity I am quite disappointed. When I reflect on the path I have taken, however, I will mentally go over my last few weeks and I can only be satisfied. Wimbledon è always been my dream since I was a child, and a final here è always surreal. So every time I play here è always like it was the first time and I always feel like I am dreaming, like when I was a child".
