Andrey Rublev takes racket but assures: “Not è no big deal”

Defeat against Carlos Alcaraz almost definitely doomed Andrey Rublev, who in case of Zverev’s victory over Medvedev would say goodbye prematurely to the Nitto ATP Finals 2023. The world No. 5 again played a good match, or rather, a very good first set, until he was broken at 5-5 and from there, just like against Medvedev, he pulled the plug.

Andrey’s mental progress has been important over the course of this season, even allowing him to win a major tournament like Monte Carlo, yet the gaps still remain significant. Today, in fact, after suffering another break early in the second set Rublev è repeatedly beat his thigh with his racket, injuring himself and letting blood run from his knee down. “È it’s okay, don’t worry, it’s no big deal” reassured the Russian at the press conference.

Of course finishing the season in this way is not è the best: “One would always like to finish in the best way, forò one does not always succeed. I am sorry for how’è it went, I could not manage myself” recounted the world No. 5, who then declared himself by now without too many ambitions for the rest of the tournament: “I don’t expect anything from the last match, I will just try to do better than the first two, at least to close 2023 with a good performance”.
