Wimbledon 2024 crowns Carlos Alcaraz: Novak Djokovic falls in three sets

The success è historic, and it also comes with less effort than expected.

Carlos Alcaraz è the champion of Wimbledon 2024, thanks to a victory in the final over a Novak Djokovic who appeared at different stages of the match stunned by the blows of the young opponent capable of defeating him in just three sets. In fact, the great challenge ends 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4) after only two and a half hours. For the Spaniard è not only the fourth Slam of his career, but also the encore on the grass of London against the same, monumental opponent already defeated last year.

The first set is consumed in less than three quarters of an hour, which Alcaraz manages to dominate after a tight first game in which he snatches Djokovic the break after as many as 20 points. He never has any problems when è his turn on serve, giving up only one point to his rival in two games. He then hits another break and denies it to the Serb flying to 5-1 and then winning the set.

Instead, just 35 points were needed to take the second set as well, which opened like the previous one with a break in favor of Alcaraz. This time Djokovic tries to stay in the match and the subsequent service turnovers are quickly resolved, at least until 4-2 for the Spaniard. In the next game comes in fact the second and on balance decisive break to which Djokovic just cannot respond.

The hour and a quarter of the third set seemed likely to reopen the talks, with a Djokovic oscillating between a crisis of nerves and moments of sheer determination that proved, however, insufficient to keep the contest open. Of note were the third game, in which the Serb nullified no less than four break points for his opponent, and the three match points nullified at 4-5 that earned him the only break of the match against Alcaraz. At the tie-break, then, Nole came back from 1-3 and 3-5, but the battle ultimately rewarded his young and highly-rated opponent.
