Hailing from a family devoted to athletics, Filippo Tortu’s grandfather ran the 100 meters in 10.9 after World War II, while his father Salvino, a Sardinian sprinter transplanted to Lombardy, achieved excellent results first at youth level and then as a master. His older brother, Giacomo, è was also a national in the various categories. Raised outdoors, he developed a rich motor intelligence by practicing basketball, swimming, skiing and soccer, but at age 13 he decided to focus exclusively on track.
Gifted with a natural talent for sprinting and an extraordinary ability for final progression, in 2018 he became the first Italian to go under 10 seconds in the 100 meters, with a time of 9.99. At the 2019 World Championships in Doha, he brings Italy back to a 100-meter rainbow final after 32 years, finishing in seventh place.
Of quiet and calm disposition, è graduated from the scientific high school and studied Business and Management at Luiss. In 2024, he won gold at the European Championships in Rome with the 4×100, and now, in Paris, he è determined to make Italians relive the magic and excitement of Tokyo 2020. On that occasion, starting as the last fractionist, he gave Italy the gold medal in the Olympic relay.
In addition to his sports achievements, his path è marked by dedication to study and a life in the outdoors, which shaped him as an athlete and as a person, making him a model of balance between sports and culture.
