Matteo Berrettini stings at the right time: he’s in the semifinals in Gstaad
Matteo Berrettini in semifinals at Gstaad ATP tournament
Matteo Berrettini confirms his moment of form by beating Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament in Gstaad: the Roman tennis player thus reaches the penultimate act of the competition on the clay of the Swiss city, where he will test himself against Stefanos Tsitsipas, Fabio Fognini’s executioner.
The match between Berrettini, currently No. 82 in the rankings, and the Canadian (No. 18) è very balanced, so much so that in neither of the two sets played comes a game won on the opponent's serve, and in both fractions a tie-break is needed to decree a winner.
Berrettini did not tremble and stung at the right time, winning both mini-games and thus closing 7-6(7), 7-6(2). The balance è also testified by the duration of the match itself: two hours and twelve minutes, with the first set lasting one hour and eleven and the second just a few minutes less, one hour and one minute.
For Berrettini, who was eliminated from Wimbledon in the second round in a beautiful derby against Jannik Sinner, this is thus the third consecutive success, following those in the early rounds of the Gstaad tournament against Pedro Chacin of Argentina, 6-4, 7-6(2), and Colombia's Daniel Elahi Galan, defeated with a more net 6-4, 6-2.
