Paris 2024 Olympics, Italians to medal: Alessia Orro
Paris Olympics: Azzurri to medal
Born in Narbolia on July 18, 1998, Alessia Orro made her debut in the national team at just 16 years old, winning the U18 World Championships at 17. Reaching the age of majority, she was called up for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. These first significant steps in the world of volleyball came after years spent in gyms in her native Sardinia, where her mother Caterina, a player and coach, had introduced her to the sport.
Initially, she would have preferred to continue with horseback riding, but over time volleyball became preponderant. She experimented with different roles, starting as center and opposite, until she discovered her vocation as setter during her experience with Club Italia.
The setter of Vero Volley Milano with the blue jersey won the gold medal at the European Championships in 2021, in which she was also awarded as the best setter of the competition,'and the bronze medal at the World Championships the following year.
In her first two Olympic participations, Orro did not achieve the results she had hoped for (ninth place in Rio and sixth in Tokyo). Now, with her sights set on the Paris 2024 Games, she è determined to improve and pursue bigger dreams.
