GP Hungary, Ferrari: Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz call themselves out of the podium zone

Here are the words of Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz at the end of qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix, in which they placed sixth and fourth respectively at the Hungaroring circuit. The quotes are reported by formulapassion.co.uk.

“Am I happy today? No – said Leclerc -.This weekend the feeling was better, but the performance still isn’t there. The lap in Q3 wasnè t bad, unfortunately there’s something similar to what happened Qatar in the last corner, where I downshifted when I didn’t want to, but that’ s something related to the steering wheel that we will look at. The lap però could have been worth at most a P4-P5, not more;. Those were the team positions today, there wasn’t much more than what we did“.

Moreù talkative Sainz but the substance of his thinking does not change much from that of his teammate. “In terms of position moreù than finishing fourth today was not possible, for sure. We were, except FP1, all weekend three to four tenths behind Red Bull and McLaren. And sì, getting a 4° place on a difficult circuit like Hungary è always good. I think now we can say that the first three positions are more or less locked and on the pace level it is almost impossible to beat them, then behind there’è a good fight for the fourth position that could become a podium or a P2 or a P1 if something happens in front, we will be ready to take advantage of the possibilities. The bottom? There are some things that have improved a bit’ but the gap with Red Bull and McLaren è still three-four tenths, and it means there’è still work to be done. We need to make much faster progress“.

“Considering where we are I think we are from fourth position tomorrow if nothing happens in front; if something happens, however, I am the first one who will tryà to win or make podium. People think Hungary is a circuit like Monte Carlo: it’s not like that, it’s more of a Barcelona than a Monaco, because’s all medium-high speed corners; I don’t know why’s people think it’s a slow circuit, but for us all the corners are 160-180 kmh, which’s high speed. So I know it is not an easy track for us, even last year here we fatigued, but I am optimistic becauseé we have had a good weekend so far. Although we don’t have the fastest car we are maximizing what we can do. As a pace we are more or less at the level of qualifying: let’s see if something happens up front, if the temperatures go up a little bit more, which maybe canò give us a hand. If nothing happens in front è difficult becauseé they have three-four tenths of a step“.
