Immense Tadej Pogacar: also triumphs in Nice and wins his third Tour de France
Tour de France, Tadej Pogacar champion
Tadej Pogacar could not have ended his Tour de France any better. In fact, the Slovenian star also took the Nice time trial, taking his sixth victory in the Grande Boucle. The UAE Emirates Team rider triumphs for the third time at the Tour de France, three years after his last success.
After winning the Giro d'Italia two months ago, Pogacar also signs a historic Giro-Tour double 26 years after Marco Pantani, the last man to do so in 1998. The Slovenian, moreover, thanks to his success in the Nice time trial, has totaled 12 stage wins between the Giro and Tour, surpassing the record of Eddy Merckx, who stopped at 11.
A Tour dominated far and wide by the Slovenian rider who closes at the top of the general classification with six minutes and seventeen seconds ahead of the Dane Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) and nine minutes and eighteen seconds ahead of the Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step).
Just outside the top 10 is the Italian Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) who loses tenth position to the Colombian Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain Victorious).
