The Blue's adventure on Croatian soil has come to an end.

Matteo Arnaldi exits at the ATP 250 tournament in Umag. Fatal for the Ligurian was the clash with the French Alexandre Muller, who was able to beat him in two sets that were actually very tight as shown by the total duration of almost two and a half hours and the final scorecard: 7-6(8), 6-4. The Italian thus misses out on advancing to the round of 16 of the tournament being held on Croatian clay.

The first set was completed in almost an hour and a quarter, with no particular jolt until 3-3. Indeed, in the seventh game comes Muller’s break, which leaves Arnaldi with 0 points and takes the lead. The Ligurian managed to respond by taking a 5-5 lead and nullifying two more break points in the next game, but had to surrender in a tie-break spent almost completely chasing.

Instead, the second set soon turns ugly, with Muller ahead thanks to an additional break that gives him a 3-1 lead. Arnaldi hits the immediate counterbreak and seems likely to straighten out his day, losing his serve again already in the sixth game. Another counterbreak came immediately, but the difficulties of the Umag challenge were not yet over. The tenth game is consumed after no less than 26 points and five match points canceled: è the sixth to give the victory to the Frenchman.

However, the Sunday of Italian tennis greeted the important victory of Matteo Berrettini, who was able to win the title in the ATP 250 tournament in Gstaad (Switzerland). "When I started this year I had so many doubts about my athletic condition, but I have to say that by playing I am finding my sensations again. My schedule includes the North American trip and I will face the tournaments with a view to doing a lot of matches on concrete, depending on the US Open“, said the Roman.
