Max Verstappen with frayed nerves: Christian Horner intervenes
The intent, very clear, è to prevent controversy from flaring up.
Max Verstappen very nervous with Red Bull after the Hungarian Grand Prix, which ended in fifth place after contact with Lewis Hamilton and especially the Dutchman's frequent complaints with his team via radio. A delicate situation, which Christian Horner himself wanted to address by trying to throw water on the fire. At least in view of the next race weekend, which will take place in just a week at Spa.
"Max was understandably frustrated during the race,” Horner said of Verstappen's angry remarks to the Red Bull team. “He then has a direct line of communication with Giampiero Lambiase, his engineer. They discuss together, and I don't think it's a topic for the media to know if we're also going to talk to him about what è happened here in Hungary".
Horner, however, gave Verstappen credit for an opaque Red Bull compared to even the recent past. " Everyone realizes that we have to improve our performance,” admitted the Anglo-Austrian team principal. That è the goal of each of us, and we are all working hard to achieve it. We will discuss about what needs to be done, but we will do it behind closed doors".
Finally Horner also had his say on Lambiase’s fateful "You’re acting like a child" in a team radio with Verstappen. "I don’t think he was talking about him at the time. He was referring to people who ask for penalties" via radio or complain about it. This è a custom now widespread, è evident. But è it è equally clear that commissioners listen to the radio. The two of them however have been working together for eight years, today certainly there are things we could have done better but we will discuss it as a team", concluded the Red Bull team principal.
