Red Bull: the long-awaited decision on Sergio Perez is here
The future of the most shaky seat of the moment è has been decided.
Red Bull is hard at work despite the fact that Formula 1 has just begun its summer break, which divides the Belgian Grand Prix run at Spa last Sunday and the Dutch Grand Prix to be held at Zandvoort on Aug. 25. By that date, there was a question of who would share the pit box with Max Verstappen, as Sergio Perez seemed to be one step away from being sidelined. Well: the long-awaited decision by the Milton Keynes team seems to have arrived.
In fact, both 'The Times' in Britain and 'De Telegraaf' in the Netherlands claim that Red Bull met during the course of the day Monday and decided to confirm Perez also for the Formula 1 rainbow trials that will be held when the championship resumes. Nothing to do for Daniel Ricciardo, who seemed to be one step away from returning to the team he leftò in 2018 (returning later as a third driver).
"Sergio Perez remains a Red Bull driver, despite recent rumors about him. We look forward to seeing him back in action after the summer break, on circuits that have exalted his qualities in the past," would be the explanation of Christian Horner, Red Bull team principal.
The Mexican driver is therefore expected to honor his existing contract with Red Bull, which expires back in 2026. During the weekend at Spa, where the Belgian Grand Prix was è held on Sunday, Daniel Ricciardo had made it clear that the prospect of replacing Perez was real. "I know that in Zandvoort he will beò behind the wheel, but I do not yet know which car", the Australian had let slip.
