Paris 2024 Olympics, extraordinary Marta Maggetti! Sixth gold for Italy
Sixth gold for Italy
It comes from women’s windsurfing the sixth gold medal of the Italian expedition to Paris 2024: Marta Maggetti è in fact won the women’s event of the IQFoil, one of the Olympic windsurfing competitions. Extraordinary proof of the Italian athlete, who in the final race defeated Israel's Sharon Kantor, silver medalist, and Britain's Emma Wilson, bronze.
For Italy è it was the 18th medal at Paris 2024: in addition to the six golds, the Azzurri also won eight silvers and four bronzes, giving at least one podium finish a day to Italian Olympic sports since the start of the Games hosted by the French capital (and other cities, as in the case of windsurfing, whose competitions are held in Marseille).
Maggetti, world champion in 2022, had already made good impressions in the fourteen preliminary races, which she finished in third place with a total of 105 (70 net points). In the semifinals she è placed second, breaking away from the pass for the final act reserved for the top three and securing a medal.
In the decisive race, Maggetti è went for the gold with determination, thanks to a splendid last leg of the race in which she è managed to overtake both Kantor and Wilson, who had to settle for the other two positions on the Five Circles podium respectively.
