Historic feat for Remco Evenepoel, who after his triumph in the time trial also won the gold medal in the cycling road race in Paris 2024, for a double win never achieved by anyone in the history of the Olympics.
The phenomenal 24-year-old Belgian made the difference in the final circuit, attacking on several occasions on the Montmartre climb, although then with 3 km to go when it seemed done his bike betrayed him. Stopped at the side of the road, fortunately for him he immediately received from the flagship another bike with which he completed his effort with his arms raised in front of the Tour Eiffel.
Completing the podium a bit surprisingly were two Frenchmen Valentin Madouas and Christophe Laporte (and not the moreù quoted Alaphilippe, who remained without medals on a par with two other big names however protagonists such as Van der Poel (Netherlands) and Wout Van Aert (Belgium).
