Paris 2024 Olympics, Ariarne Titmus takes "a long break"
She returns from Paris with two more golds, as was the case in Tokyo hailed as the revelation in the pool. Now Ariarne Titmus, one of the queens of freestyle, has announced that she is taking "a long break".
With titles won in the 400 and the 4×200, the 23-year-old Australian, world record holder in the 200, says she is also aiming for the next Games, Los Angeles 2028, but she wants to get there at the top and to do that she has to stop.
"I’m really going to take a long break. I don’t know when I will come back to swimming. I want to come back when I feel ready. Maybe even in a year", said the Australian champion.
"I just want to make sure I am ready to go to Los Angeles,” she added. "I don’t want to come back too soon: four years is a long time. I want to prepare as best I can for the Olympics, è my priority, not the world championships”.
Titmus has also won four rainbow titles in the long tank. The 23-year-old Launceston native had confessed after her double in Tokyo that she "collapsed" after the Games and experienced one of the hardest weeks of her life.
