Paris 2024 Olympics, Larissa Iapichino in final in long jump
Larissa Iapichino qualifies very convincingly for the final of the women’s long jump at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
A 6.75 was needed to qualify directly, and the 22-year-old Florentine, after a 6.60 on her first attempt, jumped 6.87 on her second, behind only the U.S. Tara Davis-Woodhall, who landed at 6.90.
She took a big chance on what was perhaps è the big favorite for the gold, Germany’s Malaika Mihambo, but after two nulls è she came in at 6.86, the third measure, with as much as 30 centimeters given away to the batting board.
“È it was a good qualification, I liked myself that I hate competing in the morning,” said Larissa, “because I am an afternoon-evening kind of girl. But, all jokes aside, è it was beautiful becauseé I am finally an Olympic athlete too (she had to skip Tokyo 2020 due to injury, ed.) plus I am in the final. I put a lot of grit and enthusiasm into it, and I thought of me as a seven- to eight-year-old child when I dreamed of reaching such a goal. Now I am in the finals and will goò to play it as always, with the knife between my teeth".
