Anna Kalinskaya, 25 and currently ranked 17th in the world, reached the round of 16 at the Toronto tournament after easily beating Ukrainian veteran Lesia Tsurenko, 35 and ranked number 85.
The match è ended with the score of 6-2 6-2 in just one’hour and 15 minutes of play. The Russian, the No. 10 seed in the Canadian tournament, suffered a break in the third game of the first set, but then shifted gears, winning 11 of the next 13 games.
In the second set, Jannik Sinner's fiancée, who is enjoying her best season in her career, missed a chance to close out the match by serving at 5-1, but then ended the match in the next game by converting the third match point.
For Tsurenko, this is the fifth loss in the last six matches, while Kalinskaya will face Amanda Anisimova in the round of 16: the Moscow-born American eliminated No. 5 seed Kasatkina with a score of 6-4 6-3 in an hour and 30 minutes.
