Stefanos Tsitsipas lashes out after Montreal knockout: drastic decision on the horizon
Stefanos Tsitsipas, drastic decision on the horizon
The defeat against Kei Nishikori in the second round of the Montreal tournament è just the latest chapter of a rather negative moment for Stefanos Tsitsipas, who after his victory at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 has not è managed to reach the semifinals in any of the subsequent tournaments, including the Olympic Games.
In the press conference after the knockout against the Japanese veteran, a former Top 5 player but now No. 576 in the world rankings, the Greek had anything but tender words towards the daddy-coach Apostolos Tsitsipas and did not rule out that he might decide to change the technical leadership soon.
"My father,” Tsitsipas said, “has not è been good at handling the situation, I am quite disappointed and I do not know whether to start considering changes,” he said. “It is important for a player to have direct feedback from the coach, to make sure that we can execute the game plan on the court. It's a collaborative job, which doesn't have to keep me stuck".
It is not è the first time that tensions have arisen between Stefanos Tsitsipas and his father Apostolos: at the end of 2022, the sporting partnership had already broken up for a few months, before the two made peace and returned to work together a few months later, in May 2003.
