Gloria Swanson, United States gold in women’s soccer
Gold for the US
The United States won Olympic gold in women's soccer by beating Brazil (1-0) in the final played at the Parc des Princes in Paris thanks to a goal by Mallory Swanson in the second half.
Much better in the first half were the Greenoro, who però failed to find the winning goal. Which, on the other hand, the North Americans did early in the second half with Swanson taking advantage of a filter pass on a counterattack and then beating Lorena.
The U.S. selection completed the tournament with a string of victories (Zambia, Germany, Australia, Japan, Germany, Brazil), winning its fifth gold – after those of 1996, 2004, 2008 and 2012 – and its seventh Olympic medal, considering the 2000 silver and 2020 bronze.
It is an achievement with a double prize, as the United States will return to being No. 1 in the FIFA rankings on Aug. 16, ousting a Spain that will drop to third place.
