Paris 2024 Olympics: the balance of Giovanni Malagò

The day after the official conclusion of the Paris 2024 Olympics, CONI President Giovanni Malagò wanted to speak bluntly about the spoils won by the Italian expedition in this Five Circles event. Italy, in fact, equaled the number of medals collected in Tokyo, but won a greater number of gold medals.

"Italy confirmed a leading role in world sports, perhaps we were the most multidisciplinary country. We medaled in 20 different sports and reached 79 finals compared to 67 in Tokyo. I got a call from President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella to congratulate women's Italvolley and all the Italian athletes who took part in this Olympics. It's been a qualitative expedition and compared to a few years ago we have shown that we are competitive in multiple disciplines" began the CONI president to "Corriere della Sera".

"We didn’t have any discipline where we were low on the list, I was surprised. South Korea won five golds in archery alone, China won everything in diving, and the Netherlands è starred in rowing. The pulverization in disciplines and athletes that we had, no one else had, and this shows the growth and strength of our movement" continued the sports executive.

"Paltrinieri è the Italian mostù medalist ever at the Olympics, the choice to have him as a flag bearer è dutiful for what he has done, is doing and will doà. He has all the prerequisites to do so in Los Angeles 2028" added the Rome native.

"Today è a day of celebration, the least nice thing è that it was very out of place that the minister of sports five days before the end of the Olympics, knowing how much I put my face into it and how much I have spent, pointed this out. It è not just a style issue, I did not expect this" from Andrea, concluded Giovanni Malagò.
