Farewell to Sergio Datome

The world of sports  è is mourning the passing of Sergio Datome, the founder of the Santa Croce Olbia basketball club. The 70-year-old è father of Gigi, a champion basketball player who played in such lineups as Boston, Detroit, Fenerbahce and Olimpia Milano and now a valued executive.

For Sardinian basketball, Sergio Datome represented a true institution. The president of the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP), Giovanni Petrucci, expressed his condolences through a note: "With great sadness we announce the passing of Sergio Datome, father of Gigi, coordinator of the activities of the Men’s National Teams Sector. On a personal note and on behalf of all Italian basketball, I express deep sympathy to his wife Antonella, Gigi and the entire Datome" family.
