Albert Gudmundsson to Fiorentina: now è official

The Albert Gudmundsson soap opera has finally come to a close. After several weeks of negotiations, Fiorentina has officially announced the purchase of the Icelandic striker from Genoa on an onerous loan with a right of redemption.

"ACF Fiorentina announces that it has acquired the rights to the sporting performance of the player Albert Gudmundsson from Genoa CFC on an onerous loan with the right of option. Gudmundsson, born in Reykjavík (Iceland) on June 15, 1997, during his career, wore, the jerseys of’AZ Alkmaar and PSV Eindhoven, a club with which he won a Dutch Championship. During the last season, with the Genoa shirt, he played 37 matches between Serie A and Coppa Italia collecting 16 goals and 5 assists. Gudmundsson has, in addition, worn the jersey of the Icelandic senior national team on 37 occasions scoring 10 goals" this is the statement issued by the Tuscan club.

"I dreamed about him every night and couldn't wait, I strongly wanted him, è one of the strongest in Serie A. He is perfect for our idea of soccer, I am sure he will make a great championship" these are the words of Raffaele Palladino.

Gudmundsson will be officially presented on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at Viola Park. The deal between Fiorentina and Genoa for the Icelandic player was concluded on the basis of an €8 million interest-bearing loan, with an obligation to buy him back under certain conditions set at €17 million plus 3.5 million in bonuses, which if reached would make the 1997 class player the highest-paid player in the history of the lily club.
