Masters 1000 Cincinnati: Mirra Andreeva-Jasmine Paolini 3-6 6-3 6-2
Jasmine Paolini's adventure in the Cincinnati Masters 1000 singles draw ends in the round of 16. The Italian tennis player, in fact, surrendered in three sets with a score of 3-6 6-3 6-2 to Russian Mirra Andreeva, who thus took revenge for her elimination in the semifinals at Roland Garros precisely at the hands of the Italian.
The first set starts immediately uphill for Paolini, who loses the opening round, but è adept at snatching the counterbreak in the next game. In the sixth game, then, the Italian placed the decisive stretch, taking a 4-2 lead and managing the advantage until the final 6-3.
In the second partial, the two players managed to hold their respective turnovers until 3-3, with the Italian having to cancel several break points. Andreeva, however, managed to be more incisive and concretized her positive momentum in the eighth game, which opened wide the doors for the third and decisive partial.
In the decisive set, the momentum shifts definitively to the side of the Russian, who immediately breaks her Tuscan rival in the opening game. Paolini tries to stay in the match, but, thanks to a few too many errors, in the fifth game comes another break in favor of the 17-year-old. The Italian number one has a reaction of pride and manages to reduce the disadvantage, but Andreeva does not flinch and thanks to two consecutive games closes the score on 6-2.
Jasmine Paolini will return to the doubles court with Sara Errani against the pair composed of Noskova and Shnaider for the challenge valid for the quarterfinals.
