Vuelta, Michael Woods’ feat in Puerto de Ancares. Ben O’Connor still in the red, but out of breath
Triumph for the Canadian runner in Friday’s stage.
It's Michael Woods the absolute protagonist of the 13th stage of the Vuelta a España 2024: the Canadian rider of Israel-Premier Tech completed a real solo, finishing the stage that started in Lugo and arrived in Puerto de Ancares (176 km total route) with his arms raised, with 45" of advantage over the second place, the Swiss Mauro Schmid (Team Jayco AlUla).
The exciting fight at the top of the general classification, on the other hand, sees Ben O'Connor keep the red leader's jersey: the Australian of Decathlon-AG2R-La Mondiale has, however, lost another 2 minutes to Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), who remains second in the ranking but 1'21" behind. Behind them, the void: Eric Mas (Movistar Team) è third at 3'01" from O'Connor.
The first of the Italians in today’s stage è Luca Vergallito (Alpecin-Deceuninck), who finished ninth at 5'59" from the winner. In the general classification è instead of Lorenzo Fortunato the first tricolor flag: the Astana Qazaqstan rider accuses a delay of 13'09" from the first in the general classification.
Saturday è stage number 14 of the Spanish stage race is scheduled: 200.5 kilometers from Villafranca del Bierzo to Villablino, for a route with an interesting elevation gain that could reward more attacks from behind and, in addition, move the general classification further.
