Alex Morgan leaves soccer played

U.S. and world soccer legend Alex Morgan announced his farewell to competitive activity with a video posted on social media. With his team, the San Diego Wave, he will play his last game hosting the North Carolina Courage on Sunday. Here are his words.

“It è took some time to make this decision, but now I have clarity and I am soì happy to finally be able to tell you. At’the beginning of 2024 I felt in my heart and soul that this would be my last season as a soccer player”.

“I am incredibly honored to have worn the national team jersey for more than 15 years, I have learned so much about myself during this time and it is thanks to my teammates and our fans. I grew up with this team that was much more than a soccer team, where friendship, respect and support were never lacking. We have made a relentless push for the’global investment in women’s sports and I am immensely proud of where this team” is going.

35 years old, Morgan with the U.S. national team won an Olympic gold medal in 2012 and a bronze medal in 2020 and two world golds in 2015 and 2019 totaling 202 appearances and 117 goals. At the club level he has worn the jerseys of West Coast FC, California Storm, Pali Blues, Western New York Flash, Seattle Sounders, Portland Thorns, Orlando Pride and precisely San Diego Wave in the U.S. in addition to those of Lyon, with whom he won the hat trick in 2016-17 (French league and cup and Champions League), and Tottenham in Europe scoring a total of 94 goals in 212 appearances in the various tournaments played.
