Italy in Davis Cup in Bologna without Lorenzo Musetti

In the group stage matches of the 2024 Davis Cup, Italy will have to do without one of the members of the 2023 winning team, Lorenzo Musetti. The ATP number 2, as far as the tennis players representing the tricolor are concerned, will therefore not be in Bologna for the challenges against Brazil, Belgium and the Netherlands that will determine two qualifiers for the knockout phase scheduled in November in Malaga.

"After a discussion with the captain, the team and the Fitp staff, where we evaluated my current psychophysical condition, and the objectives that concern us between now and the end of the year, we have agreed on the decision that I will not beò in Bologna for the Davis Cup" wrote the Carrara tennis player on his social profiles.

"It’ was a painful choice and I am sorry to have to give up this new important appointment with the blue jersey that I care so much about. I am sure that the boys will do well, I will doò cheer with the same passion with which I defended the blue colors in Paris, and I hope to find my teammates in Malaga" he then concluded.

Musetti, number 18 in the world and winner of the bronze medal won in Paris 2024, beating in the final for the lowest step of the podium the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, è just back from his elimination in the third round at the US Open, where he succumbed 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) to the American Brandon Nakashima, number 50 in the world rankings.
