Goodbye to Marco Piga

It is not è only Sardinia that is mourning the passing of Marco Piga, but also the entire world of Italian soccer. Born in Palau in 1956, Marco and his twin brother Mario left their mark, starting their careers with Torres (debut at only 17 years old) and then continuing with Avellino.

Marco collected 76 appearances and scored 12 goals in Serie B, wearing the jerseys of Atalanta, Avellino and Catania. He also achieved two consecutive promotions to Serie A, with the Nerazzurri in the 1976-1977 season and with the Irpini in 1977-1978. He also played with Reggina, Livorno, Siracusa and Ilva.

His twin brother Mario entrusted touching words to social media: “Dearest my beloved twin, you really did it to me. Our pacts were other…Fly high as you did when you scored impossible goals”.

Numerous condolence messages arrived from fans all over Italy: the death of Marco Piga touched everyone.
