One win and one loss for the Italians engaged in the first round of the ATP 250 tournaments on Chinese cement.
In the Hangzhou Open, Mattia Bellucci, world number 108, sharply beat Russian Aslan Karatsev, number 115, with a 6-4 6-0 score in one hour and ten minutes.
In the second round, the 23-year-old left-hander born in Busto Arsizio and raised tennis-wise in Castellanza will face China’s Zhizhen Zhang, number 48 in the ATP rankings.
In Chengdu, on the other hand, in the eponymous Open, Fabio Fognini, world number 79, struggled as his usual self but had to surrender to Russian Roman Safiullin, number 56, with a score of 6-3 4-6 6-4 after nearly two hours and 10 minutes of play.
