Lorenzo Musetti suffers but is in the quarters in Chengdu
Lorenzo Musetti-Christopher O'Connell 6-7 6-4 7-6
Lorenzo Musetti won painfully on his debut in the Chengdu ATP 250. In fact, the Italian, number one seeded seed, overcame Australian Christopher O'Connell, world number 75, in a comeback with a final score of 6-7 6-4 7-6 after nearly two hours and three quarters of battle.
Lorenzo got off to a strong start and scratched the break in the sixth game at the second good opportunity (4-2). The Carrarino’s lead, however, is short-lived. In the next game, in fact, Musetti accuses a lapse and gives up the bat to zero (4-3). O'Connell re-enters the partial and drags it to the tie-break, which he wins by 7 points to 5.
In the second set è again Musetti was the first to move ahead: the Italian took away O'Connell’s serve in the fifth game, going up 3-2. The seeding leader this time confirmed the lead (4-2) and kept the break until the final 6-4.
In the third and decisive set Musetti gets the break again in the fifth game (3-2). Here forò comes the reaction of O'Connell who threads three consecutive games and goes on to serve for the match (5-3). The Australian, however, trembles at the decisive moment, allowing the Carrara player to get back into the match. It thus comes to the tie-break again and this time è Musetti prevails.
Musetti thus flies; to the quarterfinals of the 'Chengdu Open' where he will face Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, number 46 in the ATP rankings and No. 5 in the seeding, who beat China’s Yi Zhou in three sets.
