Coppa Italia: Lecce sinks at home, Sassuolo gives itself to Milan
Italy Cup, Lecce-Sassuolo 0-2
Lecce is badly digesting the Emilian: after the resounding draw a few days ago against Parma (from 2-0 to 2-2 between 93' and 95') è this time Sassuolo made the Giallorossi head back to the locker room, winning 2-0 a match in which they started as underdogs. In the round of 16, Fabio Grosso’s team will face AC Milan.
It's a header by Tarik Muharemovic, off Doig's cross from a corner kick, that put the neroverdi ahead on 14' for the Bosnian defender, on loan from Juventus, è his first goal in the Emilian club’s jersey. Lecce didn't miss the chances to equalize, one of all the one that happened on Pierret's feet at 56' from a good position, but è still Sassuolo took effective advantage of a restart and doubled at 79', with Luca D'Andrea's conclusion from the limit that beat Fruchtl.
The Salentini, who in the previous round played in mid-August had defeated Mantova 2-1 with goals by Kialonda Gaspar and Nikola Krstovic (the former played today from 62' in place of Pelmard, the latter è remained on the bench for the entire 90'), thus come out defeated in front of their own public and have to leave the national cup. For Sassuolo è however, an important success, in continuityà with the victories in the last Serie B matches against Carrarese and Cosenza.
The scoreboard will thus pit the Fabio Grosso-coached team against AC Milan, a challenge that was played for several years in Serie A before the neroverdi's bitter relegation at the conclusion of the 2023/2024 season. The round of 16 is scheduled in a dry match (at the home of the seeded club, in this case the Rossoneri) between December 4 and 18, with dates to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
