Deborah Compagnoni, former Italian skiing queen, in an interview with Corriere della Sera spoke about the current tennis phenom, Jannik Sinner, world number one and fresh winner of the US Open. The former skier confirmed how important practicing skiing was for the athlete from San Candido, for a whole series of movements that are decisive in tennis as well.
"Alberto Tomba and Isolde Kostner were great with the racket,” he revealed. “In San Candido they are well organized: tourists who come to South Tyrol want to play tennis, they have courts. Steps, lateral movement, leg independence are all inheritances from skiing, which involves multi-sport" preparation.
"In dry training you train dexterity, quicknessà, strength. Then Jannik è a phenomenon, clear…", concluded Compagnoni.
Sinner è currently engaged in Beijing in the ATP 500 tournament of which è title holder. After his victory over Jarry, the Azure will face Russian Roman Safiullin on Saturday.
