Louis Vuitton Cup Final: back-and-forth between Luna Rossa and Ineos Britannia
Louis Vuitton Cup, one win each for Luna Rossa and Ineos Britannia: series at 3-3
The third day of the Louis Vuitton Cup finals races between Luna Rossa and Ineos Britannia also ended in a tie.
In the first race of the day, the British boat gets off to a perfect start, while the Italian crew makes a mistake and falls off the foils. The Prada team tries to close the distance, but Ineos è good at managing the lead and crossing the finish line with 12" of margin.
In the sixth race, however. è Luna Rossa to start better and stretch immediately on the opponent. From that moment on, the regatta seems a photocopy of the previous one, but with reversed parts: the Italian boat, in fact, always repels Ineos Britannia on the left side of the course, defending its advantage, which results in 4” at the first mark. Fast, confident in its maneuvers, precise in its tactics, Luna Rossa always leads and increases the gap in each side, getting to detach the British boat by more than 300 m. Despite the attempts of the crew led by Sir Ben Ainslie, Luna Rossa makes no mistakes and leaves no hope of a comeback, crossing the finish line with a lead of 17”, thus bringing the series back to even; on 3-3.
As a reminder, the final è best of thirteen races, the first to win seven of them will land in the challenge for the America’s Cup against the holders Emirates Team New Zealand.
